Dance
All of the band dance or play regularly for dancing.  Four of us either dance or play with Red Stags MorrisWickham Morris and Alton Morris. We are working with Jo and Simon Harmer (founding members of Chequered Flag Appalachian Dancers) to revive and reinvigorate the tradition of step dancing in the southern counties, and this is influencing a lot of our recent musical development. Cath organises and plays for a series of country dances for the over 50s, and is jointly musical leader of musicians playing for baroque and regency dance groups.  Gill dances whenever she gets the opportunity.

Other music

Jigfoot's other musical activities demonstrate the enormous range of influences that feed back into our music. Nic's cafe jazz band Fedora Cafe evokes the film noir style of the 1940s, and he plays lead guitar with the Sarah Harrison Band. Gill plays with Red Spirit, as a duo with Dave Townsend, and deps with the Mellstock Band. She has also played with the Sam Newgarth Light Orchestra. Cath plays baroque chamber music with Quattrio and acoustic folk/punk with singer/songwriter Joe Cunio in botyov1791. Between them they all have many other past bands and projects too numerous to mention!

Community
All of the band enjoy playing in sessions, with Ben and Cath initiating and coordinating Irish and English sessions respectively in Southampton. Cath blogs regularly about the English tunes session.  We have recently been working with Jo and Simon Harmer to start a step dancing session and build a community to develop the tradition.

Teaching and Workshops
Gill is a well respected tutor of folk cello, running workshops at Whitby Folk Week and the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, and is a regular tutor for Strings at Witney. Cath is co-director of FolkActive, a social enterprise that aims to teach, share and promote the traditional music, dance and folk arts of southern England.

Events
Jigfoot are part of Melting Pot, a musicians collective that organises stages/venues for local music events such as Romsey Beggars Fair and Southampton's Music in the City and Ejector Seat, and Cath is on the organising team for the Beggars Fair.
